The year’s halfway point is the perfect time to reflect on our goals and accomplishments, make necessary adjustments, and plan for the months ahead. In this post, I will provide a detailed look into my reflection process and how I stay on track to meet my goals. I hope to inspire you to stay committed to your goals and make the necessary changes to achieve meaningful progress.
The Importance of Reflection:
Reflection is a crucial part of my goal-setting process. When I set goals, it’s because I aim to transform something significant in my life. Achieving meaningful change requires intentional reflection. It’s about critically examining my actions, understanding their impacts, and learning from my experiences. Reflection helps me assess the effectiveness of my efforts, pinpoint areas needing improvement, and refine my approaches to create more impactful and sustainable change.
Engaging in reflective practice ensures that my actions are informed, intentional, and aligned with my values and goals. Reflection is how I stay accountable and track my progress.

My 6-Month Review Reflection Process:
At the beginning of the year, I set several goals and created a digital vision board to visualize them. Each square on my vision board represents a specific goal or area of focus. To keep myself on track, I use a success plan tracker where I monitor my progress.
Here’s a step-by-step look at my reflection process:
- Review Goals Regularly:
- It’s best practice to review goals at least weekly, monthly, and quarterly. This keeps them fresh in my mind and ensures consistent progress.
- Use a Success Plan Tracker:
- My success plan tracker categorizes my goals into Professional, Personal, Health, Community, and Relationships. This organization makes it easier to track and monitor my progress.
- Ask Reflective Questions:
- I ask myself critical questions such as:
- What key successes have I achieved in the first six months?
- What contributed to these achievements?
- What areas need significant improvement?
- What steps can I take to address the areas needing improvement?
- I ask myself critical questions such as:
For example, in the professional category, I successfully planned for my education consulting firm, meeting that goal every month. One factor contributing to this success was scheduling daily time to prepare for my firm, making it a top priority.
In contrast, my goal to plan and prepare meals weekly in the health category needs significant improvement. I only met this goal once during the six months. To improve, I’m considering outsourcing meal prep by hiring a chef, which could save me money compared to eating out.
Engagement Prompt:
What are your top priorities this year? How are you scheduling time for them?
Adjustments for the Second Half of the Year:
Based on my reflections, I’ve made several adjustments to my goals for the year’s second half. Here are some fundamental changes:
- Shift from Daily to Weekly Goals:
- I’ve shifted many daily goals to more manageable weekly goals. For example, instead of practicing English vocabulary and Spanish for 30 minutes daily, I’ve set a weekly goal of 4 hours. This allows for more flexibility in my schedule.
- Prioritizing Important Goals:
- I removed the goal to post on LinkedIn twice per week. While it’s still something I plan to do, it’s not a priority anymore, so I don’t need to track it.
- Quantitative Goals:
- I’ve set a quantitative goal for overall success related to my tracker. This helps me measure progress more clearly. Only 47.5% of my tracker was green for the first half of the year. My goal for the year’s second half is to achieve 70%, with an ambitious target of 80%.
Engagement Prompt: Have you made any adjustments to your goals recently? What changes have you made and why?
Staying on Track:
I use Google Calendar to schedule tasks related to my goals to manage my time effectively. Here’s a peek at how I set up my calendar with color-coded events and emojis for different goal categories. This system has been a major key to my progress.
Reflecting, adjusting, and staying on track with my goals has been transformative. Consistently going through this process has given me clarity and helped me know exactly what I want to accomplish and how I will do it. The word for this year is “Execution” because I have big dreams and aspirations. With knowledge, experience, and insight, I’m committed to executing my plans.
